While teaching and research are sometimes characterized as separate functions, I believe that they are intimately intertwined. I am passionate about teaching with excellence and about student meaningful learning. Excellent teaching is rocket science and necessitates that we investigate its many facets. My current research focuses on stress, self-awareness, advocacy, and classroom community, and how these relate to cognition, metacognition, and, ultimately, student learning and success. Through my teaching, I seek to provide others with transformative opportunities that are grounded in the aesthetics of learning, truth-seeking, and self-actualization. What all this means is that I am interested in helping individuals realize their own potential and inner power. I do so by using my neuroscience background and my experience as a teacher and a mentor.
